The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is seeking two Education Department interns during summer of 2010. Internships will start in June and last through August, depending on workload and the intern’s schedule. Ideal candidates are self-starters who have an outgoing personality and work well collaboratively; great organizational abilities; experience within the education field, and an interest in the museum profession. Project: Adapting The Moores: An Irish Family in America for young audiences
To revise the content of our newest tour for elementary-aged audiences. The intern will work with the history of the Moore family, Irish-Catholic immigrants striving to keep their family healthy in 1869. The intern will review current tour content as well as New York State and New York City learning standards. S/he will work with education professionals, historians, and the museum’s teacher advisory committee to insure that content is age appropriate and meets the overall goals and objectives of the Museum. In addition, s/he may deliver programs to school groups, adults and/or the public.

Project: Developing lesson plans to accompany online interactives
To assist in the creation of K-12 lesson plans to assist educators in implementing the Museum’s online interactives into their curriculum. The intern will work with the Museum’s Virtual Tour, Agents for Change, We Are Multicolored, and Folksongs For the Five Points. The intern will review current online content as well as New York City and New York State learning standards. In addition, s/he may deliver programs to school groups, adults and/or the public.

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is seeking an intern for its Public Affairs Department during the fall semester 2009. Learn what it’s like to manage communications and marketing outreach at New York’s most visited historic site.
We’re looking for a bright, outgoing individual to assist with a variety of communications-related and organizational tasks. This internship will start mid-September and last until mid-December, 8-10 hours per week, depending on workload and the intern’s schedule.
Projects include:
Our ideal candidate has excellent, punchy writing skills; an upbeat and outgoing personality; great organizational and analytical abilities; an interest in marketing/public relations or in a career at a museum or non-profit arts organization; and a flexible schedule.
While this internship opportunity is unpaid, volunteers receive great benefits, including free admission to any of the museum’s tours, a discount in the museum shop, and the chance to attend departmental and all-staff meetings.
